Manufacturing Consent.

Manufacturing Consent: a movie about the way media is veiwed, mainly what we get from this movie is that the news is our main source for information. yet what we tend to see is a bias/slanted view. We get thirty second clips of the biggest story. for example, when the news shows us what is going on in iraq we only see the biggest most violent/intresting stories because they want to catch the attention of people, so we dont really know the whole story.

When it comes to news papers, the editors tend to distort the views predicted because they dont want to loose the viewers attention.

chomskey's propaganda model consists of  five "filters" that distort the media, which are the size, ownership, and profit orientation. the advertising licesnse for being able to do the buisness. sourcing mass media news, flak and enforcers and anti- communism.

my view on this movie is that i think it was informal, but i also think they touched base on the same things over and over again, which made the movie to long and hard to follow along with.

i think chomskey has one of the greatest minds even though he is often reffered as an anarchist.

“Propaganda is to democracy what violence is to a dictatorship.” we base everthing we know about the "media" based on what we see on the news, and we see their slanted view. but yet we are okay with it.

  1. Sarah, This is a wonderful distillation of the film. I especially like the fact you referenced the five filters contained in the Propaganda model
